The weather certainly played its part, with the sun shining down on the faces of all third and fourth class students at the Astrid-Lindgren School (ALS) as they posed for the group photo.
And then it was off to work. Divided into two groups, one group learned all about the forest, its wildlife, as well as the bark beetle, while the other group started planting the young sycamore seedlings with help from employees of the Melsungen forestry department. The bark beetles are responsible for wiping out the spruce trees that were here between the Malsfeld sports grounds and the B83. After both groups had completed their “forest lessons”, which included detective work and planting trees, there were 200 new trees in the ground.
Of course, these 300 trees will not be enough to transform the 5000 m² area into a forest again. A total of 1600 trees will be planted, representing our contribution to a healthy forest environment.
Hilgenberg GmbH has already supported the Astrid-Lindgren school in a number of areas: “Projects such as these give children an insight into the relationships within nature and an understanding of how nature has an effect on all our lives.” The campaign shows the children that small steps can also lead to something big.
